My first sculpt-Confederate Soldier

This fella was built in late 1993 or early '94. It was my first real attempt at sculpting a figure. It was about that time when I was in awe by the works of Shep Paine and Bill Horan (who's pieces were gracing the pages of practically every figure magazine out there) and it they were my first true inspirations. The body is from the Airfix Multipose figures, stripped down then re-built up using Milliput. The face was painted with oils (Why? Because everyone was doing it!)The rest in Polly S acrylics (anyone remember that line?).

Jason, I like it. Nothing like taking a walk down memory lane. Your work has definitely evolved over the years and continues to do so. Neat stuff pard.

Thanks pard. I was pretty geeked when I completed it. Even though it was no where near the quality of work of other modelers, I was happy with it. I think that was a key to improving. Accepting my shortcomings as a painter and sculptor but not being satisfied with the end results. I'll never be totally satisfied, I see little things after each piece I complete that maybe could have done different/better. If there is any advice to new sculptors and painters to give, I would say accept the final piece and move on.

IMO your advice can equally be applied to "old" sculptors as well new. The trick is to just heed said advice. :)

Big ol' pile of heads and armatures for the St. Privat project.
